Philips is Suing Nintendo for Patent Infringement

Philips is suing Nintendo for patent infringement, and is attempting to ban all Wii U sales in the future in the US as according to them, it infringes on several of the company's patents.

One of the patents that Nintendo has allegedly copied and taken from Philips is the technology to take a person's actions and replicate them on-screen. The second patent is about navigating user interfaces by pointing a device, the prime example in this case being the Wiimote.

"Philips has engaged in the field of applied electronics and has conducted research in areas relating to visual representation of spatial processes and to automatic processes," the lawsuit reads.
"The present patents-in-suit stem from these fields of research and development and claims protection for an interactive system for which a user can remotely control devices in an intuitive manner. Such intuitive remote control mechanisms are used in present-day home video game consoles."

While you might be wondering about why Philips hasn't taken action against Nintendo before the Wii U, as the Wii could be accused of the same things, Philips have said that they did notify Nintendo about the situation back in late 2011.
